Romania, land of choice

The Romanian tourism ministry presented the country’s international promotion video today (Fri) in Paris, France.

Tourism Minister Elena Udrea, former tennis player Ilie Nastase, former gymnast Nadia Comaneci and Paris city-hall and French Tennis Federation officials attended the presentation.

The video premiered on a giant screen on city-hall square, where it was to be shown several times throughout the day.

Tourism Ministry Elena Udrea said: "I hope the number of foreign tourists coming to Romania this year will increase by at least 10 per cent in the wake of our tourism-promotion campaign. The ministry chose Paris to as the venue for the beginning of the campaign owing to strong ties between Romania and France. Bucharest was once called The Little Paris."

Udrea invited French tourists to visit Romania and promised Romanians would be great hosts. "We hope Bucharest will return to being The Little Paris," Udrea said.

The ministry rented the Parisian square for the entire day. Traditional Romanian music and dance groups were to perform there, and Ilie Nastase and Peter McNamara were to play an exhibition match on a portable tennis court set up for the occasion.

Romania’s tourism ministry is about to select an international news channel and an international sports channel on which to air the tourism-promotion video.
