Ice church open at 2,000m altitude

An Ice Church was inaugurated near the Ice Hotel at Balea Lake, at 2,000 metre altitude in Fagaras mountains, Romania.

Priests from several Christian churches held religious ceremonies this weekend, and it is now officially open.

Two weddings - of two English couples - are scheduled there already.

The Ice Church was built from blocks of ice taken from Balea Lake and it took three weeks to build it.

The church is a copy of an old church from Malancrav village, Sibiu county, central Romania, where Prince Charles had a former manor renovated and has since put it up for rent to guests. The guesthouse in Malancrav, Laslea commune, is registered to the "Mihai Eminescu Trust" Foundation, whose patron is Prince Charles.

The Ice Hotel nearby has 10 rooms, a restaurant and a bar.
