New Natural History Museum records a year's worth of visitors in a month

Romanian Times

The Natural History Museum "Grigore Antipa" in Bucharest announced today (Thurs) a record number of visitors in a month after the reopening - a year's worth of visitors.

There were 59,835 visitors in the last month, over half of them children, which is equal to the number of visitors in a year, in the period 2000 to 2009.

The one-day record was on 23 October, when there were 4,955 visitors, the highest number ever.

The modernised Natural History Museum was reopened on 17 September.

The museum manager, Dumitru Murariu, said at the reopening, he expected the annual number of visitors to reach 250,000 people, which was four times more than before the modernisation of the museum. The record number of visitors so far - of 350,000 individuals per year - was registered during the communist regime.

The new modern museum exhibits 2,500 objects, and offers modern 3D projections, interactive systems of presenting the exhibits, 66 info-touch monitors and five rooms projecting documentaries.

The modernisation works cost 13 million Euros, paid for with Culture Ministry funds.
