More tourists in July

The number of tourists accommodated in Romania in July had increased by 21.8 per cent, compared to a year ago, data from the National Statistics Institute (INS) showed today (Mon).

There were 893,000 tourists accommodated in July in Romania, of which 18.7 were foreigners.

In total, there were 2.67 million overnight stays in tourist resorts in July, which is 26.7 per cent more than in the same period a year ago. Thirteen per cent of these were foreign tourists.

INS data shows there were 945,000 foreign visitors who passed the Romanian border in July, which is 7.1 per cent more than a year ago. Most foreign tourists arriving at the border - 54.8 per cent - were from EU countries. Of those, most arrivals were registered to be from Hungary (30.8 per cent), Bulgaria (14.9 per cent), Poland (11.3 per cent), Germany (8.4 per cent), Italy (7 per cent ) and Austria (4.1 per cent).

In the same period, 1.096 million Romanians were registered at border points travelling abroad, which is 4.9 per cent more than a year ago.

INS data shows the number of arrivals in tourist resorts has risen by 14 per cent, up to 3.7 million, in the first seven months, while the number of nights spent was also up by 9.9 per cent, to 9.18 million.
