Teenager climbs highest volcano in North America at 15

A Romanian teenager has finished climbing the highest volcano in North America, the Pico de Orizaba, it was reported today (Tues).

Crina Coco Popescu climbed the 5,636 metre Pico de Orizaba volcano in Mexico - which is sixth in the Seven volcano Summits circuit, the Mountain Altitudine Sport Club announced.

Fifteen-year-old Crina is on an expedition in North America with her father, Ovidiu, and they are now planning to climb Mt McKinley (6,194 m) in Alaska.

In February, she became the youngest person in the world to climb Carstensz Pyramid mountain (4,884 metres) in Indonesia. The world record was set during a five-week expedition in which Crina again took part with her father.

So far, Crina has climbed four of the Seven Summits over the past three years, Aconcagua, Kilimanjaro, Elbrus and Carstensz Pyramid, and six peaks of the Seven Volcanoes, Elbrus, Ojos Del Salado, Damavand, Kilimanjaro, Giluwe and now Pico de Orizaba.
