Romania to become the fifth most popular destination for tourists in Eastern Europe

Romania will become the fifth most visited tourism destination in  Eastern Europe, by 2014, according to a market study by Euromonitor International.

The number of foreign tourists to Romania will rise by 18 per cent by 2014, up to 9.6 millions visitors, according to Euromonitor estimates, announced today (Thurs).

This would place Romanian fifth in the region, after Russia, Ukraine, Poland and Croatia.

The study also showed that tourists spent in Romania an average of 125 Euros/person, last year, compared to the average 334 Euros in all Eastern Europe.

Last year, most foreign tourists came to Romania from its neighbors: Hungary (25 per cent), Moldova (15 per cent) and Bulgaria (14 per cent).
