Romanians spent €six million on 1 May holidays

Around 90,000 Romanians spent the 1 May holiday at local tourists resorts, where they spent five million Euros, according to tourism officials.

The 86,000 registered tourists spent five million Euros locally, while around 11,000 chose to go abroad, where they spent one million Euros.

Some 35,000 Romanians went to the seaside, as 1 May marked the official opening of the summer season.

Resorts in the mountains and the Prahova Valley reported an occupancy rate of 80 to 90 per cent.

Over 2,000 tourists spent 1 May in the Danube Delta, and 13,000 people went to bathing resorts.

Among Romanians who spent 1 May abroad, 9,000 chose Bulgaria, followed by Greece (800), Turkey (300), Austria (150), the UK (150) and Hungary (100).
