Rasnov Fortress may reopen to the public in April

Romanian Times

The medieval castle in Rasnov in central Romania may reopen to the public in April, Rasnov Mayor Adrian Vestea announced today (Tues).

The castle is still closed after a balcony and the entire wall to which it was attached collapsed in September last year.

Local authorities, together with a firm currently studying the situation, said only a third of a total of 9,850 square metres of the monument had been investigated.

A new route for tourists will be opened that will be completely safe, the mayor added.

A similar accident occurred in March last year, when two parts of Rasnov castle's old fortifications collapsed.

Rasnov Fortress is 200 metres above the town of Rasnov, which was settled by Saxons in the 12th century.
