Romania’s foreign tourism promotion budget was very low and needed to be increased to obtain satisfactory results, TUI Romania General Manager Tim Grosse said today (Mon).
The budget is around five million Euros in 2010.
Grosse estimated that the number of German tourists coming to Romania through TUI could grow provided the Romanian Government invested more in promotion in the German market, according to Mediafax.
The German TUI group, one of the world’s leading tour operators, resumed operation in the Romanian market in 2010.
Grosse said: "With such an inadequate five million Euro budget, you can attend only a few tourism fairs. In the German market alone, Bulgaria's promotion budget is over 10 million Euros and Austria’s is more than 20 million Euros," Grosse said.
He added that the low budget also made it impossible to promote the country's brand and expand into other markets such as Scandinavia, which TUI regards as one of the most important.
In 2006, TUI had stopped its flights to Romania and eliminated Romanian destinations from its catalogues, citing bad accommodations, high hotel prices, too much noise and dirty resorts.
