New ski slope opens in Bukovina

A 1.5-kilometre-long ski slope opened this week-end in Gura Humorului in Suceava county in the Bukovina region of northern Romania.

Bukovina is one of the most-beautiful regions in Romania and attracts thousands of tourists annually, especially for it medieval, painted churches.

Now tourists have a new reason to visit Bukovina, as a new ski slope has been financed by EU funding.

The ski slope is 1,478 meters long and has a 238 metre drop in altitude, with an average angle of 19.7 per cent. A total of 873 skiers can use it daily, local authorities said.

The ski slope was opened by Finance Minister Sebastian Vladescu.

The Gura Humorului ski slope is part of an 11-million-Euro EU programme that is being developed in the area to boost its attraction to tourists.
