Romanian Times

Austrian discount airliner FlyNiki started Bucharest-Vienna flights on 1 February from international airport Henri Coanda in Bucharest.

The company, owned by former Formula One champion Niki Lauda, has six flights a week, with none on Saturdays, airport officials said.

International airport Henri Coanda in Bucharest reported a drop of 11 per cent year on year in the number of its passengers in 2009.

The total number of passengers registered last year was 4.48 million, 11 per cent fewer than in the previous year, when there were 5.06 million passengers, airport officials added.

A plane landed or took off every seven minutes last year on average, statistics show.
