Many hotel operators at resorts in Prahova Valley in Brasov county have reduced prices on their Christmas and New Year’s Eve packages compared to last year.
They have done so since reservations are still at only half last year’s level in some places.
Only around 75 per cent of some 10,000 registered rooms in Sinaia have been reserved to date, according to the Tourist Information Center, while one year ago everything was booked. Meanwhile, prices have dropped by 15 per cent or remained the same.
The cheaper villas are the most sought-after this holiday season, having been fully reserved, with prices around 250 Euros for three nights lodging. The price of a tourist package in a three-star Sinaia hotel is, on average, 350 Euros (1,500 lei) and up to 1,000 Euros at four-star hotels.
Only 50 per cent of rooms in hotels at Busteni resort are booked, and prices are 25 per cent lower, according to the town Mayor Emanoil Savin. Last year, all places were already booked in early November, he added, according to Mediafax.
"You can tell there is a crisis in tourism," Savin said, adding that hotel operators in Busteni would launch new tourist packages today (Mon) to attract more people to Busteni this winter.
