Football day for Bucharest children for Europa League Final

The Mayor of Bucharest Sorin Oprescu asked the Education Ministry to cancel classes on 9 May, for the final game of the Europa League Championship which takes place in Romania's Capital, the municipality informed today (Fri). The municipality wants to avoid traffic jams in the city centre.

​More than 30,000 foreign football fans and over 600 journalists are expected in Bucharest ahead of the all-Spanish Europa League final between Atletico Madrid and Athletic Bilbao. The match will take place in the newly built National Arena in Bucharest and will kick off at 9.45 pm, local time.

The two teams will arrive two days before the final, next Monday. The trophy is already in Bucharest, where it was displayed for the public in several areas of the city.

Supporters will be able to watch the match in two of the main squares in Bucharest,in Constitutiei Square and George Enescu Square, Mircea Sandu the president of the Romanian Football Federation announced today.

The authorities will deploy over 5,000 security forces, jendarmes, policemen and firefighters to assure the security in the day of the final.
