Nine players from Romania's football champions team - who met Manchester United in the Champions League playoffs - have been stranded for over 20 hours on a train, after they had left Galati for Bucharest on Monday, it emerged today (Tues).
Due to heavy snowfall the train has been stuck since yesterday and nine players from Otelul Galati were stranded.
They were supposed to get to Bucharest and to the airport, to leave for Spain. The rest of the team already left for Spain this morning (Tues).
Under normal conditions, the journey Galati - Bucharest takes 4 hours.
The nine players, who went to Galati to see their families, were unable to go by car to Bucharest, due to the wintery conditions. So the nine players - Alejandro Viglianti, Cristian Sarghi, Silviu Ilie, Samoel Cojoc, Valentin Munteanu, Cristian Branet, Cornel Rapa, Ionuț Neagu and Sergiu Costin - took the train last night at 6pm and they are still on it.
Otelul Galati, coming from a workers' town on the Danube in eastern Romania - known for its Arcelor Mittal steel plant - won for the first time in its history the local championship last summer. This win assured its access to the qualifying groups for the Champions League.
Otelul Galati met Manchester United in the playoffs to the Champions League last autumn, but failed to score.
