Otelul leaves Champions League with zero points

Romania's football champion Otelul Galati left the Champions League competition with zero points, after the defeat last night (Weds) against Benfica Lisbon.

Otelul lost, in an away game 0-1 (0-1) against Benfica Lisbon last night (Weds). Oscar Cardozo scored the winning goal in minute 7.

Otelul thus leaves the Champions League Group C after six stages with zero points. In its group, Benfica qualified for further Champions League competitions with 12 points, followed by FC Basel, with 11 points, while Manchester United had only 9 points and qualified for the Europa League competition.

The team, coming from a workers' town on the Danube in eastern Romania - known for its Arcelor Mittal steel plant - won for the first time in its history the local championship last summer. It assured its access to the qualifying groups for the Champions League.
