Sour US Open for four Romanian tennis players

The four Romanian tennis players competing at the US Open competition were eliminated in the first round yesterday (Mon) at Flushing Meadows in New York.

Victor Hanescu was eliminated by American John Isner by a score of 1-6, 6-7 (14-16), 6-7 (5-7).

Alexandra Dulgheru, who was competing at the US Open for the first time, was defeated by Belarussian Victoria Azarenka by a score of 1-6, 1-6 in a match that lasted only 64 minutes.

Edina Gallovits was defeated by Italian Flavia Pennetta by a score of 0-6, 4-6.

Raluca Olaru, ranked 54th in the world, lost to Chinese Na Li by a score of 6-7 (4-7), 3-6.

The Romanian players received 19,000 dollars apiece for their participation at the US Open Grand Slam competition.
