A statue of Emperor Trajan, the founder of Rome, considered also one of the forefathers of the Romanian people together with Dacian Leader Burebista, stirred the disgust of many in Bucharest, local press informs.
The statue representing a naked Trajan was unveiled last weekend by the Mayor of Bucharest Sorin Oprescu in front of Romania's National Museum of History.
The statue is considered by most of the people who saw it an oddity and even a monstrosity as it depicts a naked emperor with pumped up buttocks holding a lion with an alien-like appendix coming out of its mouth.
"It looks like a monster escaped from Chernobyl", a central newspaper in Romania wrote, depicting the statue.
The statue made by late sculptor Vasile Gorduz was praised by the Mayor who launched his campaign re-election on the same day when it unveiled the so-called art object.
The representatives of the History Museum however are not so pleased as the Mayor and asked the municipality to remove the statue from the Museum's steps.
The sculptor, dead four years ago, made three copies of Trajan statue. The first was donated to Spanish city of Seville, but the municipal authorities, horrified also by its ugliness hid it at the outskirts of the city. The second copy is in Rome, Italy and it is still unfinished.
