Some 100mn Euros new National Library, finalised after 25 years

Romania's new National Library was inaugurated today (Thurs) in Bucharest, as 100 million Euros worth of construction work has been finalised.

Prime Minister Emil Boc and Culture Minister Kelemen Hunor were present at the official event.

The library will be open to the public within a year, after the book collections have been moved there. First events will be hosted there starting in January, the Culture Ministry said.

The 120,000 square metre modern library was finished 25 years after work had started. Its construction began back in 1986, then came to a halt in 1989, when the communist regime fell, and new works, based on new projects, started in 2009.
