EC mission to assess use of loan by Romania

Romanian Times

A European Commission (EC) delegation will be in Bucharest from October 28 through November 9 to assess Romania’s economic performance.

The EC group will focus on Romania’s use of a one billion Euro disbursement from EU funds, the Commission said in a statement today (Fri).

The statement came one day after both the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank said they would send assessment missions to Romania at the same time.

However, the EC and the IMF did not rule out the possibility of follow-up missions to Romania to continue talks with authorities in Bucharest after a new government was formed.

Romania, which secured 20 billion Euros in international aid from the IMF, the European Union (EU) and other foreign lenders, is relying on the disbursement of a third 1.5 billion Euro tranche from the IMF and a second one billion Euro tranche from the EU by the end of the year.
