Romanian film is competing for an Oscar

Romanian Times

The American Film Academy has released the final list of 65 films proposed for an Oscar in the best foreign-language film category.

The nomination committee will begin today (Fri) to watch the 65 films in order to choose the final nominees.

The feature film "Politist, adjectiv" (Police, adjective) by Romanian director Corneliu Porumboiu is Romania’s nominee for the 2010 Academy Awards.

The film won the FIPRESCI and the Jury’s award in the Un Certain Regard category at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. "Police, adjective" also won the Transylvania Trophy at this year’s Transylvania International Film Festival (TIFF).

In 2006, Director Porumboiu won the Camera d'Or award at the Cannes Film Festival for the feature film "A fost sau n-a fost?" (East of Bucharest.)

Oscar nominees will be announced on 2 February 2010.

The 82nd Academy Awards will take place on 7 March 2010 at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles.
