Pedro Almodovar movie to open film festival in Danube delta

Spanish Director Pedro Almodovar’s "Los Abrazos Rotos" (Broken Embraces) will be the first movie at the Anonimul International Independent Film Festival today (Mon).

The sixth edition of the film festival in Sfantu Gheorghe in Romania’s Danube delta will
feature a premiere screening of the Spanish director’s most recent film starring Penelope Cruz. The movie was shown at Cannes Film Festival 2009.

Seven films will compete in the feature competition, while the short-film competition will include 24 short fiction films and 18 short animations.

The feature movies will include "The other Irina" (Cealaltă Irina) by Andrei Gruzsniczki (Romania), "Wrong Rosary" by Mahmut Fazil Coskun (Turkey), "Tulpan" by Sergei Dvortsevoy (Kazakhstan), "Treeless Mountain" by So-Yong Kim (South Korea), "A week alone" by Celina Murga (Argentina), "Stella" by Sylvie Verheyde (France) and "199 tips to be happy" by Andrés Waissbluth (Chile).

The festival’s prize of 3,000 dollars will be based on the public’s online vote.

There will be open-air screenings each evening in the unique scenery of the Danube delta, and admission will be free.

The festival will continue through 16 August.
