Austrian woman arrested with 2 million euros worth of heroin in Romania

A 44 year-old Austrian citizen and two other persons were arrested on Tuesday night, 11 June by the Romanian Prosecutors with the Organised Crime and anti-Terrorism Divison informed.

Austrian Nicole Smith and her fellow traffickers were driving three separate cars on the A1 motorway in Romania, linking the Capital Bucharest to Pitesti(centre) when a DIICOT Squad stopped the convoy and searched the vehicles. The prosecutors discovered 40 kg of pure heroin, estimated to some 2 million euros on the black market.

The three persons were part of a trans-border drug traffickers ring headed by Nicole Smith who was introducing in EU drugs from Turkey, DIICOT specified.

The final destination of the drugs was Austria. The illegal merchandise was brought from Turkey by sea and then transported via Romania and Hungary by road.
