Traian Basescu blunders at a meeting with Prince of Wales

Michael Leidig

Romanian president Traian Basescu congratulated today (Mon) Prince Charles, in a visit to Bucharest, for the diamond jubilee of Queen Elizabeth marriage with Prince Phillip, the local press reported.
The president was not aware that last week, the British Royal House celebrated the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth accession.
The Prince did not react to Basescu blunder as the official translator corrected the mistake by her own initiative.
Basescu thanked Charles for his efforts in promoting the Romanian tourism, especially Transylvania, a land the Prince of Wales admires and where he has several properties.
"I want especially to thank you for the superb film about the Carpathian Mountains with which you have promoted Romania extraordinarily", Basescu told the Prince of Wales.

Charles came last Wednesday in a private visit to Romania and visited several villages in Transylvania.

Charles left the Cotroceni Palace accompanied by Prime Minister Victor Ponta to the ceremonies organized in Bucharest for the Queen’s diamond jubilee, including a British sports cars parade.
