Prime Minister (PM) Razvan Mihai Ungureanu is the best option for the Democrat Liberal Party (PDL), the largest in government, to win the presidential elections in 2004, Elena Udrea leader of Bucharest PDL branch said on Thursday night (yesterday), local press informs today.
Udrea, known as a confident of President Traian Basescu who still has a strong hand over the party he had set, admitted the Democrat Liberals have no other option currently.
Ungureanu replaced in early February former PM Emil Boc whose popularity sunk to 7 percent last year resigned at the pressure of anti-austerity and anti-government protests.
According to the latest opinion poll, the PM's popularity is similar to the two co-presidents of the Opposition, around 25 percent.
Recently, the PM admitted he is considering setting up a new political movement, but he didn't give any further details.
Traian Basescu, whose presidential term ends in 2014 enjoys the trust of only ten percent of the Romanians, according to the latest trust chart published on April 8. He shares the position with his political confident Elena Udrea.
