Former deputy sentenced to 5 years in jail

Former Romanian Chamber of Deputies member Emilian Cutean, from the Social Democrat Party (PSD) was sentenced definitively to five years in jail by the Court of Appeal in Bucharest today (Tues).

Emilian Cutean defrauded the government by over 50,000 Euros (200,000 RON), back in 2004, while he was dealing with the revolutionaries' problems.

The Court of Appeal in Bucharest rejected his appeal and the appeal of his accomplice, Daniela Sbarcea.

The court of district 1 in Bucharest sentenced Cutean back in 2009 to five years in jail and Daniela Sbarcea to three years suspended sentence.

The two high officials were sent to trial back in 2006 by anti-corruption prosecutors.
