Six die due to freezing weather

Six persons have died in Romania in the last four days, due to sub-zero temperatures, as low as minus 25 degrees Celsius.

Nearly 500 homeless persons were taken off the streets and offered medical care, the Health Ministry announced.

A record low temperature for this winter was registered last night (Mon/Tues) at Intorsura Buzaului, eastern Romania: minus 29 degrees Celsius. At Intorsura Buzaului, the lowest ever temperature was registered in 2005, when it was minus 36 degrees Celsius.

A meteorological warning was issued by the meteorologists valid until Friday, 3 February, for very cold weather, with temperatures as low as minus 27 degrees Celsius. The entire, eastern, central and southern area in Romania have been given the orange code for freezing weather, with maximum temperatures of minus 15 degrees Celsius.
