Romanian MP wants to legalise prostitution

A new law allowing prostitutes to get receipts for their services and full health insurance has been put forward by a Romanian MP.

Ruling party PDL lawmaker Silviu Prigoana said he had been inspired by legislation in Germany, and added that prostitutes - who advertise everywhere in Romanian newspapers - should allowed to conduct their business either independently or in organised groups.

But the Romanian Orthodox Church has said the move would be tantamount to the legalisation of slavery.
