New West Nile virus infections confirmed

Romanian Times

Romania has confirmed eight new infections with the mosquito-borne West Nile virus, the Health Ministry said today (Fri).

The total number of confirmed infections is 15 up until now, of which two elderly people died.

Health authorities said there is no risk of an epidemic, as the number of infections is small.

Mosquitos are transmitting the West Nile virus to humans, by bites, and especially people over 50 can be vulnerable.

Tens of deaths occurred in Greece and Russia this summer, due to the West Nile virus infection.
