Romania´s government to have some new ministers

Romanian Times

Romania's government will have some new ministers, according to Prime Minister Emil Boc.

After meeting with ruling party Democrat Liberal party (PDL) law-makers, Boc said late yesterday (Weds) evening that talks would continue with President Traian Basescu and party leaders.

Boc said: "I appeared before PDL law-makers, on whom, next to our coalition partners, the fate of the government depends, and I put on the table the two alternatives that we have.

"The first is resignation of the entire government and the second is continuation with a reshuffled government. The option that we adopted was to continue on with a reshuffled government," he added.

Opposition parties Social Democrat Party (PSD) and National Liberal Party (PNL) have announced that they are planning a motion of no-confidence in the government.

The Boc government has been sharply criticized for harsh measures taken to reduce the budget deficit.

All public-sector salaries have been slashed by 25 per cent, and the value-added tax (VAT) rate has been raised from 19 to 24 per cent amid discussion of continuation of loan agreements with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the European Commission (EC).
