Baby dies after phone-assisted birth

Romanian Times

A young woman has accused a doctor of killing her newborn baby after having to give birth with the help of nurses getting instructions from the doctor over the phone, Agerpres news agency reports.

The 28-year-old woman says doctor Cecilia Ionescu, the gynecologist in Pucioasa, Dambovita county, southern Romania, had left the hospital when she arrived to gave birth, yesterday (Tues) afternoon.

The woman says the gynecologist gave instructions over the phone to the nurses and the midwives and that the baby died after suffocating on its umbilical cord.

Hospital management have declined to comment on the incident.
