Roma NGOs ask for boycott of French products and services

The Roma Civic Alliance in Romania (ACRR) called today (Mon) for a protest on 6 September in front of the French Embassy in Bucharest, in response to the summit organized by the French President Nicholas Sarkozy in Paris.

The Roma rights organization said they also propose a boycott of French products and services, "in order to make the French rulers more aware of the fact that the fundamental rights are not subject to negotiation."

The ACRR wants thus to protest against the recent actions of the French government, as hundreds of Roma people have been sent back to Romania from camps in France.

ACRR said they wanted to "stop the ethnic cleansing policy of the French government" and called to protest "all those committed to the principles of inequality and discrimination in our societies".

"We all will protest against the ethnic cleansing policy carried out by the French government against Romanian and Bulgarian citizens of Roma origin, against collective expulsion and repressive measures and victimization of an entire ethnic group, against the abolition of the presumption of innocence as regards the Roma citizens as well as against the collectively criminalization of an entire ethnic group and against the illegal fingerprinting of the French authorities."
