Foreign tourists stranded in Romania have half price accomodation

Romanian Times

Foreign tourists stranded in Romania because of cancelled flights caused by the volcanic ash cloud will pay only half for accommodation, the Tourism Ministry announced yesterday (Sun).

The announcement came after a crisis panel organised yesterday (Sun)  decided the offer would apply to all foreign tourists unable to leave because of the ash cloud.

A special free phone number - 0800868282-  has been set up for tourists stranded in Romania and for Romanians stranded abroad to get information on accommodation opportunities and transport to their home countries.

Airspace closure was forced in several European countries due to the ash cloud caused by the eruption of a volcano in Iceland last week.

All airports in Oradea, Baia Mare, Cluj-Napoca and Satu Mare were shut down over fears that the ash cloud formed after the eruption of the volcano in Iceland may reach the country.

Airports across Europe including in UK, Denmark, Belgium, Sweden and The Netherlands have all closed the airports, too.
