Underground workers´ strike has been called off

Underground workers have called off their strike scheduled for tomorrow (Thurs) in Romanian capital Bucharest.

Union leader Ioan Radoi told Agerpres that wage increases had been agreed to in negotiations today.

The wage increase ranges from 3.7 to up to 10 per cent, he added.

Underground workers had threatened to stage a general strike from 4am to 4pm, which would have caused chaos in Bucharest as 600,000 people use the underground every day.

Underground workers went on strike briefly last November, demanding a wage increase of 20 per cent.
