Romanians arrested for offering fake jobs in the UK

Romanian Times

Two Romanians have been detained by police for defrauding people aboutg fake jobs in the UK, police in Buzau said today (Thurs).

A man, 32, and a woman, 43, from Buzau in eastern Romania are suspected of having lured 68 people into paying 300 Euros apiece for fake contracts for allegedly well-paying jobs in the UK.

Police spokesperson Florina Crucianu said the victims had been attracted by newspaper and internet ads in which labour contracts in the UK were on offer. The victims were offered contracts in English for jobs at fish-processing plants in the UK.

The fraudsters made over 20,000 Euros from September 2009 to February 2010 in that way.

The victims, mostly men, paid for "counselling services" the fraudsters said they were providing.
