France has become a favourite destination for Romanian doctors after the country's accession to the European Union, according to French newspaper La Croix.
Romanians were second in terms of percentages of foreign doctors working in France, according to the newspaper. Romanian doctors accounted for 12 per cent of a total of 9,500 foreign doctors in Franc in 2009, slightly behind Belgian doctors, who accounted for 16.37 per cent.
Figures show 1,063 Romanian doctors were working in France in 2009, of whom 70 per cent were women, with the majority working as general practitioners. Around ten per cent of them had their own offices, especially in rural areas.
According to the Romanian Doctors' College, 1,210 doctors asked for documents for work abroad in 2009, with France, the UK, Italy and Spain the countries most of them wanted to work in.
