Police free 30 people from slave-like labour

Police freed 30 people yesterday (Tues) morning who had been forced to work in slave-like conditions at several farms near Constanta in southeastern Romania.

Police detained five suspects and are continuing their investigation.

Over 200 policemen raided 14 farms in Constanta county - near Mihail Kogalniceanu, Targusor and Cogealac.

After the raids, police announced that they had found 30 people who had been working without any documents at the farms, where they were supposed to take care of animals.

The victims claimed that they had been exploited and forced to work in slave-like conditions, police said.
