Magistrate´s son on trial over multi-million Euro theft

Romanian Times

The son of a magistrate is to go on trial over the theft of millions of Euros using fake debit cards.

Iustin Covei, the son of a magistrate at the Craiova Court of Appeals, and 17 accomplices, have been sent to trial to answer charges related to the targeting of foreign bank accounts, the organised-crime police (DIICOT) said yesterday (Mon).

The gang members were arrested in September last year. Police estimate tens of millions of Euros have been stolen in similar crimes.

Police say the defendants are suspected of having financed and coordinated several criminal enterprises involving debit cards in Australia, Jordan and Tunis.

The case will be tried by Bucharest Court.
