Former EU commissioner named presidential adviser

Romanian President Traian Basescu has appointed the country’s former EU Commissioner for Multilingualism Leonard Orban presidential adviser for European affairs, the president’s office said today (Mon).

Orban, an economist, served as European Commissioner for Multilingualism between 2007, when Romania joined the European Union, and 2009.

Romania's new EU commissioner is Dacian Ciolos, who secured the Agriculture portfolio earlier this year.
