Romania´s next EU commissioner to be voted on today

Romanian Times

Romanian EU Commissioner-designate for Agriculture and Rural Development Dacian Ciolos is going to be voted on today (Tues) by the European Parliament (EP) in Brussels, together with the rest of the new commissioners.

MEPs are going to decide today who are going to be members of the next European Commission (EC) after committee hearings last month. Ciolos' hearing in the EP on 15 January ended with a round of applause.

Ciolos has been head of a presidential committee for agriculture and director of Department I for rural development programmes at the EC’s General Department for Agriculture and Rural Development.

He will officially take up his post tomorrow if the new commissioners are approved by the EP.

They will have a term of office of five years.
