Suspect arrested over Romanian murder in Ireland

Kathryn Quinn

The mother of Romanian Loredana Pricajan has told how a man arrested over her murder may have killed her because she refused to leave Ireland.

Romanian media said today (Tues) Irish police have arrested Marian Mihalache over the murder of 36 year old nurse Loredana at a hotel complex in south Dublin last week.

Mihalache, 48, Vice President of the local Liberal Party in Hunedoara, Romania, was also found stabbed in the complex, but it is believed he attempted to kill himself following her murder.

He is understood to have been in a relationship with Loredana at the time of her death and her mother has now confirmed the couple were having relationship problems.

Loredana’s mother Mia Pricajan said:  "Marian wanted Loredana to move back to Romania. He was often demanding she came back here, but Loredana was very happy in Ireland, she loved her job and life there. She had been there for six years and did not want to come back yet."

Her mother said this could have been why he murdered her.

"Loredana had known Marian for around 15 years. He was increasingly unhappy that she wanted to stay in Ireland," she added.

It is believed that Mihalache was visiting Loredana in Ireland at the time of her murder.

His Romanian work colleagues were unaware he was on holiday in Ireland and only knew he was out of the country when he failed to turn up to work on Monday morning.
