Eight swine flu victims in intensive care

Eight people are in intensive care with swine flu, authorities said today (Fri).

The Health Ministry also confirmed there had been 165 new infections in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases to 2,830.

The largest numbers of new infections were registered in Bucharest (50) and Hunedaoara county (14).

Dambovita county had 11 cases, Arges and Suceava (8 cases each) and Arad (7 cases),

Meanwhile schools across the country said they would close for seven days due to the virus.

A nationwide vaccination campaign began today with Health Ministry state secretary Adrian Streinu-Cercel the first to get the vaccine.
