Underground employees protest in Bucharest

Mediafax

Over 100 employees of Bucharest subway company Metrorex protested today (Fri) against the delayed approval of the company’s budget.

They said they assumed that meant delayed negotiation of their collective labour contract.

The protesters asked Metrorex management to enter into negotiations with them.

The leader of the Subway Free Unions (USLM), Ion Radoi, informed the protesters that negotiations would commence on Monday.

The USLM filed a notice yesterday with the Ministry of Labor on conflict of interests that could lead to a general strike because the government had not yet approved the budget for underground company Metrorex.

A general strike would put Bucharest in gridlock because the underground transports more than a quarter of the city's population daily.
