Cattle breeders announce suspension of protests

Romanian Times

Romanian cattle breeders announced they have suspended protests after decisions on loan- purchase problems made today (Thurs).

Cattle farmers met today at the president's office with bank officials and representatives of the Agency for Payments and Intervention in Agriculture (APIA) and the Rural Loan Guarantee Fund to decide on the manner in which loans may be acquired.

Union leader Costel Caras told Mediafax that all the details on loan access had been straightened out.

Cattle breeders said they would put off planned protests, adding they would soon meet with other animal breeders to decide on measures to be taken if they do not get their money in due time.

President Traian Basescu said yesterday local lenders CEC, BRD and BCR Erste Bank had signed financing agreements with APIA and the Farm Loan Guarantee Fund to ensure funding for animal breeders.

Romanian lenders Raiffeisen Bank and Bancpost are also in talks over financing terms for animal breeders.
