Man dies after fake prize phone call

Romanian Times

A Romanian man is facing a police probe after phoning an OAP pal and pretending that he had won a 2,000 Euro lottery prize.

Romanian Milica Miu, 65, from Piatra, southern Romania, was so excited when he heard the news that he had a heart attack and died just as he was writing down how to claim the prize.

Family who rushed to his side after they heard him talking excitedly on the phone called emergency services but it was too late to help the pensioner.

But when they rang back the number they got through to one of Mui's pals who told them it was all a joke.

A police spokesman said: "We are going to conduct an investigation - it may well lead to charges."
