Dead Mayor elected in the local council

A Romanian mayor, who died only ten days ahead of the municipal elections that took place on Sunday, was elected to the local council, the Central Elections Bureau informed today (Mon).

58-year-old Ioan Vasinca, the former Mayor of Campia Turzii (West) died on June 1, after the ballot papers had already been printed. The representatives of the city said the candidacy of the dead mayor couldn't be cancelled as the law doesn't mention such situations.

The Mayor was elected on the Democrat Liberal Party list for the local council. The position will be vacated and a new ballot will be organised to replace the now dead mayor.
