Bureaucracy cut amid protests

Romania cuts down bureaucracy and allows a new firm to be set up in three days, Prime Minister Emil Boc said yesterday evening (Mon).

Starting on 6 February, a new firm will be set up in three days, down from current 10 days, in a bid to encourage new investments and new jobs.

Crisis-stricken Romanians have been paying an increased VAT rate from 19 to 24 per cent since 2010, and public sector wages were cut by 25 per cent. Street protests have been going on in the streets for 18 days all over the country demanding the resignation of the government and the president.
