Romania wants to adopt Euro in 2015

Romanian Times

Romania maintains its target to adopt the unique European currency in 2015, said President Traian Basescu on Thurday.

Romania is aware that meeting the Maastricht criteria is not enough to reach this target, but the state economy and the institutions of the Romanian state should be competitive as well.

He added that the decision made during the meeting of the European Council in December 2011 regarding the consolidation of the economic and monetary unity of the European Union, to which Romania is interested in joining, is the absolutely necessary step for getting back on a sustainable growth of the economy in the euro area.

"Romania wants ... to remain involved in the major evolutions in Europe and to avoid some artificial divisions within the Union," the president said, restating that our country is in favour of a more integrated European Union, bordering to "The United States of Europe", Agerpres reports.
