Dacia Renault reduced boom sales in 2011

Romanian Times

Romanian car make Dacia, a Renault company, sold 343,233 units last year, company officials said today (Tues).

Back in 2010, Dacia sold 348,723 vehicles, which was 12 per cent more than in 2009.

The most purchased model was the SUV Duster, with over 161,200 units sold, followed by the Logan models - 95,452, and Sandero - 86,578 units sold worldwide.

In Romania, Dacia sold 30,867 units, the majority being the Logan cars (21,099 units). This is 16 per cent fewer than a year before, when it sold 36,730 units in Romania. As the Romanian car market dropped by 8.3 per cent in 2011, Dacia managed to get 28.9 per cent of the total sales.

In Europe alone, on foreign markets, Dacia sold over 240,000 units, the company said. France is the first foreign market for Dacia, with over 94,000 units, which represents 3.5 per cent of the market share. Germany comes next, with 43,452 Dacia cars sold, up by 7.8 per cent compared to 2010.

Sales in Italy increased as well, by 15 per cent, up to 26,838 units. Dacia also sold in Morocco (22,356 units), Turkey (21,339 units) and Algeria (19,242 units). Spain comes next, with 15,641 units sold, followed by Belgium (14,700 units), Poland (7,382 units), Switzerland (6,051 units) and Austria (5,697 units).

Company officials said there were around 1.8 million Dacia cars on the roads.

Romanian car maker Dacia announced this month a new model would be launched at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

The new Dacia Lodgy, a family car with five or seven seats, will be on sale in June.

It would be fitted with special equipment providing more comfort and functionality, the car producer said.

Lodgy will be the first Dacia model built exclusively outside Romania, as it will be assembled in Tanger, Morocco.

Model Dacia Duster is currently representing over 50 per cent of the production at the Dacia plant in Mioveni, southern Romania, owned by French carmaker Renault.

Another successful model is Dacia Logan, launched in 2004 and it is very successful due to its low price. It is currently sold in 46 countries, in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.
