Real estate investments down in 2012

Romanian Times

Analysts from Cushman&Wakefield estimate real estate investments will drop by 20 per cent this year, down to 5 billion Euros.

Charles Taylor, partner at Cushman&Wakefield, said: "Taking into account the difficult conditions on the financial market, we don't expect in 2012 the volumes to reach the level of last year."

Real estate investments in Romania reached 320 million Euros in 2011, which is 5 per cent of total investments in this sector in Central Europe, a report by Cushman&Wakefield revealed on Thursday.

The value of investments in real estate reached 6.1 billion Euros last year, double compared to 2010, when it was 2.9 billion Euros.

Romania is fourth in the region, after Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary. Romania had the most modest development in the region, compared to the other markets in the region.

Poland is the leader of the region, in this sector, with total investments worth 2.58 million Euros. The Czech Republic registered the highest boom, from 479 million Euros in 2010 up to 2.2 billion Euros in 2011.

The report shows 40 per cent of the purchases were retail ones, while office buildings represented 37 per cent of real estate investments.
