Online commerce is likely to hit 200 million Euros this year, according to market analysis.
The boost of e-commerce will continue, following last year's encouraging figures.
Online commerce increased by a quarter in Romania in the last year, a report published today (Weds) shows.
The value of online purchases was up by 24 per cent, compared to 2010, up to 158.9 million Euros, online transactions processor RomCard said.
There were 138.8 million Euros paid for purchases via the platform ePayment the highest sales being registered in May, June and July.
Romanians spent on average 58 Euros in 2010 on online purchases and 64 Euros in 2011, according to ePayment data.
Tourism, software, ITC and toys sectors are the most popular, it added.
Marin Mitroi, general manager at Romcard, said in a statement: "If lately there were increases of 20 to 50 per cent in industries like tourism or telecommunication, in 2011 there were increases for other products, a sign that online purchases are becoming a habit."
Buying flowers online felt a boost by 29 per cent, while the toys sector was up by 23 per cent, among others.
The highest single online transaction in 2011 was made through the purchase of plane tickets - 9,700 Euros and for a tourist package worth 8,800 Euros.
ePayment supplies eCommerce solutions and it is part of the international group PayU, within Naspers Ltd. PayU has online eCommerce activities in Poland, The Czech Republic, Romania and Hungary, and it processed over 31 million transactions in 2010, of over 800 million Euros. In Romania, ePayment had over 2 million transactions online last year, worth 138.8 million Euros.
